From Miners To Mm To Jack & Jones: It’S Been A Long But Illustrious Journey For Denim!

We call it Denim, but it was originally known as ‘Serge de Nimes’. Over the years, the name gradually drawled on to ‘Denim’. It was an accidental discovery by the French when they tried to create a fabric resembling the sturdy Italian fabric: Serge.

From Wild Bill Hickok to Wyatt Earp, it was none other than the charismatic cowboys and gunslingers who immortalized the fabric through wearing it extensively. On a serious note, denim was first worn by miners because they required a sturdy fabric capable of withstanding harsh weather conditions. Cowboys and gunslingers were the next ones to wear it because it was the fabric which could withstand the unpredictable shocks of their rugged lifestyle.

 The wardrobe of actors and actresses comprises Denim as a rule. It all started with the movie: Rebel Without a Cause with actor James Dean wearing a T-shirt, a leather jacket and trousers made from Denim. The look spread like wildfire and still continues to thrive today.
